CONTENT & LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING
This course is for teachers who want to learn to teach a school curriculum subject in a foreign language. The course explores the techniques and methodology underlying CLIL. It is aimed at teachers who want to study CLIL in depth and are confident in their own language ability. If you want to focus on improving your own language ability, our CLIL & English Language Training course may be more appropriate.
The course comprises of 40 contact morning hours plus two afternoon workshops and an extensive cultural and social programme directly linked to the morning sessions.
Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) programmes combine teaching content from a particular curriculum area (e.g., science) with the explicit teaching of a target language (e.g., English). There is a focus on the vocabulary and structures required for the additional curriculum areas. CLIL has the advantage of addressing the “crowded curriculum” issues as it enables one or more curriculum areas to be taught in an additional language, thereby extends the time on task for language learning. It also works by promoting transverse skills, important for learning in the 21st century. This course, in addition to formal classroom learning, also contains informal/”insitu” learning in the form of cultural activities plus there are networking opportunities for teachers to mix with other teachers from all over Europe.
This teaching development course has been designed around the objectives of ERASMUS+ Key Action 1, with the aim of increasing internationalisation and modernisation of schools, as well as strengthening the teaching profession. As a result, it also aims to increase attainment of multilingualism in students through effective teaching, with the goal to decrease unemployment and students dropping out of school across Europe.
